Finding The Good In You Through Personal Development ...

Do you want to improve your life? To help you get started, check out the tips below.

Pinpoint exactly what is blocking your progress. A lot of people are unable to do this without help. However, when you can find out what your weaknesses are, this becomes the first step in dealing with them and, eventually, changing them. If you can successfully remove a few obstacles, you might just see a clearer path to your future.

Keep your limitations in mind and do not push too hard to reach your goals, especially when it comes to physical self-improvement. While no one can argue the importance of giving 100 percent, you must nonetheless take care of yourself. You still need to take care of your body when trying to achieve a goal. Short-changing your body in order to meet personal development goals is a terribly counter-productive form of self-improvement.

Your library and bookstore probably have an entire section devoted to self-help. The best of these types of books can truly give you new advice and ideas that work for improving your specific life situations and challenges. Many personal development books are poorly written, so pick one that has good reviews.

TIP! Stress is an enemy of happiness. While experiencing stress, our entire body is affected in both physical and mental ways.

Wherever you happen to be, when a great idea strikes your brain, write it down. Carry paper and a pen around with you. Record as much as you can when your idea hits so that you can flesh it out later at a more convenient time.

You need to decide what type of lifestyle would suit you best, then you can set goals that can realistically be attained. Everybody has a weakness, but if you discover what yours are and then strive to banish them, that makes you the better person.

Personal development begins when you identify what you value the most. Value your personal best and make that important to your life.

Always have an emergency fund. For many people any unexpected expense results in more charges on their credit card. If you save just a little each week, you will have built up your emergency fund in no time. This fund can be crucial in both your immediate and distant future as you work toward decreasing debt, rather than accumulating it.

TIP! One great personal development goal you can set is to practice being more selfless. Your inner character will benefit greatly from helping others, and making sacrifices to do it.

Taking some small risks can help you stay happy. Most people avoid risks because they don?t want to fail or feel bad about their capabilities. This means that they become stuck in a rut where they do the same things over and over, and do not find fulfillment. Taking risks requires a lot of courage, which will help you become happy in the long run.

Hang out with people who are similar to you. If you are surrounded by people who are negative or who do not believe in you, eventually you might start to believe them. So keeping company with positive people with positive outlooks will benefit you in many ways.

Are you a heavy drinker? Is smoking or anything else harming your body? You should treat your body like a temple, because that?s what it is. If you are serious about improving your life, it is important to eliminate the habits which cause your body harm. Assess your life and what habits you have, and see if there are any that you could work on omitting.

Try and find new ways to challenge yourself. Trying new things is a way to broaden your horizons. You could acquire new skills and learn new things. You may even start a new model by doing something that has never been done before. Strive to create something new, rather than accomplishing something that?s already been done.

TIP! Try to find a book or article that encourages or uplifts you. A religious text might work for some people, while others may prefer a book that contains inspirational quotes.

Learn what others have done that has made them successful. Don?t think of your personal development as a journey with an end. Think of it as a permanent lifestyle change. It is always beneficial to hear the stories about roads traveled by other individuals, especially very successful individuals.

If you take proper care of your physical needs, you will get the maximum benefit from your personal development approach. A good diet, a lot of sleep and activity will give you more energy and help you get a healthier and better-looking body. Though many take these simple things for granted, they are often hard to incorporate into personal habits.

Are you still searching for the love of your life? Try using Internet dating sites to meet people. Four out of ten couples meet online these days. That perfect someone could be looking for you right now. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

TIP! If you are falling sort and not meeting goals, step back and look at your issues. Compare your goals with the goals of others that you can research online.

Realizing your own self-worth is a crucial component of personal development. Believe that you should do the best for yourself. Think of your personal development as a lifestyle change and continue making new goals for yourself.

As you?ve just read, it?s not as frightening to better your life as you may think. Keep in mind the fantastic benefits you can gain from developing your life into something you love

Champion Oil Posts Technical Bulletin on Understanding - SBWire

Clinton, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/22/2012 -- Hypoid gearboxes found in automobiles and heavy duty trucks require specialized lubrication. Oils designed to lubricate these components are loaded with extreme-pressure additives and are more viscous than other automotive fluids. They are relied upon to transfer a lot of power, usually run very hot, and have very long drain intervals. Consequently, choosing high quality gear oil is very important for the life of your gearbox.

While many heavy-duty applications still use mineral gear oils, synthetic gear oils are becoming the standard for passenger car axle gears and are seeing more use even in heavy duty fleet service. Synthetic gear oils show better resistance to oxidation, better flow at start-up, and better retention of viscosity at elevated temperatures. These characteristics are exceptionally important as service intervals get longer, sumps get smaller, and airflow across the axle is reduced by aerodynamics. There is also evidence that high quality; synthetic gear oils can provide modest improvements to fuel economy.

As drain intervals and loadings have increased on hypoid axles, shear stability of axle oils has become increasingly important. While mineral oils are usually thickened with or mostly made of heavy paraffinic base oils, synthetic oils are typically lighter and must be thickened with polymers ? some gear oils may be as much as 35% thickener. The thickeners required to satisfy the shear stability requirements are a premium in cost to those used in engine oils. Cheaper gear oils formulated with normal crankcase polymers are likely to quickly shear out of grade.

Regardless of your choice to use synthetic or mineral gear oils, be sure to follow your equipment manufacturer?s guidelines for viscosity grade and service category. Many automotive axles only hold three quarts or less of oil, and spending a small premium for just three quarts of better oil may limit headaches and repair bills in the future.

UN chief tells Iranian leaders to tone down rhetoric

Kathy Willens / AP

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

By Robert WindremNBC News

In an extraordinary but little-noticed public rebuke, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has condemned Iran?s supreme religious leader and president for ?threatening Israel?s existence? in ?offensive and inflammatory? comments about the Jewish state.?

Ban?s rare public criticism on Friday did not noticeably cool the increasingly hostile public exchanges between Tehran and Jerusalem. On Tuesday, Iran?s mission to the United Nations complained about the ?irony? of the U.N. leader?s failure to condemn Israeli officials for employing similar rhetoric.?

In Friday?s statement, Ban singled out Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for their recent comments.?

"The Secretary-General is dismayed by the remarks threatening Israel?s existence attributed over the last two days to the Supreme Leader and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Ban wrote. "The Secretary-General condemns these offensive and inflammatory statements.?

"The Secretary-General believes that all leaders in the region should use their voices at this time to lower, rather than to escalate, tensions.? In accordance with the United Nations Charter, all members must refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State."?

The condemnation, which didn't get much attention, went beyond any statement by Ban or previous secretaries-general on the tensions between Israel and Iran, an indication, say U.S. officials, that the U.N is taking Iran's anti-Israeli rhetoric seriously.?

Apparently stung by the criticism, Iran on Tuesday wrote to the U.N. Security Council that Israeli officials have recently threatened to bomb Iran's nuclear program. It also states that the U.N. Security Council and "other relevant organs of the United Nations" have had "no reaction" to Israeli threats and in some cases have "aligned themselves with such statements."?

The diplomatic equivalent of a shouting match began Thursday with comments by Khamenei on Quds Day, when Iran annually pledges solidarity with Palestinian groups and demands an end to Israeli control of Jerusalem.?

Fears grow of Israel-Iran missile shootout

"The light of hope will shine on the Palestinian issue, and this Islamic land will certainly be returned to the Palestinian nation, and the superfluous and fake Zionist [regime] will disappear from the landscape," the 72-year-old cleric was quoted as saying.?

On the same day, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that while "there are risks? in an Israeli attack on Iran, ?It's infinitely more dangerous, complicated, complex and costly in human lives and resources to deal with a nuclear Iran in the future.? His comments echoed those of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who suggested on Aug. 1 that a military strike against Iran?s nuclear program may be imminent. ?"Time to resolve this issue peacefully is running out," he said.?

On Friday, Ahmadinejad, speaking on Iranian television, made some of his most extreme comments about Israel since becoming president of the Islamic Republic.?

?The Zionist regime and the Zionists are a cancerous tumor. Even if one cell of them is left in one inch of (Palestinian) land, in the future this story (of Israel?s existence) will repeat,? Ahmadinejad said. "The nations of the region will soon finish off the usurpers in the Palestinian land."?

In responding to Ban?s statement on Tuesday, Iran's deputy ambassador to the U.N., Eshagh Al Habib, wrote to the U.N. Security Council to complain that Israel has repeatedly made threatening comments against Iran without being subjected to similar condemnation.?

"The Islamic Republic of Iran expresses, once again, its deep concern over, and strong condemnation of. such a provocative, unwarranted and irresponsible statement by (the Israeli) Prime Minister and Defense Minister as well as other officials of (the) Israeli regime (who) frequently threaten Iran with military strike," wrote Habib.

He closed with a subtle but apparent slap at Ban: "The irony is that there has been no reaction on the part of Western leaders and/or relevant organs of the United Nations, including the United Nations Security Council, vis-a-vis the inflammatory remarks and baseless allegations leveled against Iran's peaceful nuclear program,? Habib wrote. ?Rather some even spare no occasion to align themselves with such statements."?

Diplomatic sources say that the rhetoric is likely to increase despite Ban's condemnation. They note that Ahmadinejad is likely to condemn Israel even more forcibly next month when he is expected in New York for the annual meeting of the U.N. General Assembly. It will be the Iranian president's last speech to the General Assembly as Iran's president before his term runs out in June.

Cartoon stickers may sway kids' food choices

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - For youngsters who turn up their noses at fruits and vegetables, slapping a cartoon face on a healthy snack could make those choices more appealing, a new study suggests.

Researchers found that when elementary school students were offered apples and cookies with lunch, kids were more likely to opt for an apple when it was branded with an Elmo sticker.

One researcher not involved in the new study said parents and school administrators can take a lesson from food companies: Elmo, Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob help sell snacks, healthy or unhealthy.

"There are so many foods that are of poor nutritional quality and they are being marketed to children," said Christina Roberto, who studies food choices at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.

Kid-friendly characters used for marketing "aren't popping up on the carrots and apples as much as they are on a wide range of foods that aren't so good for kids," Roberto told Reuters Health.

Those cartoon characters and other flashy advertising often don cookie and candy packaging, said David Just, co-director of the Cornell Center for Behavioral Economics in Child Nutrition Programs in Ithaca, New York.

For the new study, Just and his colleagues did the apple and cookie experiment with 208 eight- to 11-year-olds at suburban and rural schools every day at lunch for a week. Kids were allowed to choose an apple, a cookie or both snacks along with their normal meal.

Some of those days, the snacks were offered without cartoon stickers or other branding. On other days, either the cookie or the apple was branded with a familiar kids' character.

When the snacks weren't specially marked, 91 percent of kids took a cookie and just under one-quarter took an apple.

Putting an Elmo sticker on the apples led 37 percent of kids to take fruit, the researchers reported this week in a letter to the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

Stickers on cookies didn't affect kids' choice of the sweet snack - probably because the youngsters already knew they tasted good, according to Just.

Roberto said some experts want branding off of kids' foods altogether, but others are willing to experiment with marketing strategies to encourage kids to make healthier choices.

Just advocated for the latter strategy.

"If we're trying to promote healthier foods, we need to be as smart as the companies that are selling the less-healthy foods," he told Reuters Health. "The message should be: fight fire with fire."

Fire, in this case, being Elmo and other friendly faces, of course.

Using stickers on fruits and vegetables could be one cheap option to help improve students' diets, Roberto said, as well as something parents can try at home.

"It's not a bad idea to create those positive associations," Roberto said, "especially if you're struggling to get kids to eat healthy foods."

Just added that parents can use fun names to encourage little kids especially to see fruits and vegetables as cool, such as "X-ray vision carrots" and "power peas."
