Have you tried everything under the sun to get Google to show your image under their search results page? You?ve even checked it out with the rich snippets tool, verified by email, done everything you can do and yet your image is not showing up next your content on the search results page? While we are still in Google?s discretion whether or not they choose to use our image we can make it a lot easier by making sure we actually have an image that they want. You?ll notice the picture above has one thing in common on all of the images; it someone?s headshot. It?s not a picture of them standing next to their car, an agent and their spouse, a person with their kids or a family picture or even a picture of their pet. It?s a picture of them, current; their headshot, the actual person that wrote the content. If you?ve noticed, this is the standard in all the Google search results and if one has slipped through, I haven?t seen it yet.
SO, this also means your ActiveRain profile. If your image on here is your dog, pet, logo or real estate sign, it won't show up on the search results - only your smiling face.
But what if we have multiple people blogging on the same website?
This is a little bit trickier but it?s not impossible. (It really only works well for a WordPress or a blogger website. Other custom websites and their hosts rarely set these up correctly.) You must have separate ?about? pages for each contributor to the website stating a ?By____________? on the content and linking back to their ?about me? page. This also must be connected to their Google plus profile as well as being a contributor. Here?s a great tutorial on how to add multiple authors to one blog. But what if our branding images show two people?
If all your branding images show you and your spouse or you and your partners Google still will not use the image because they?re not sure who actually is the author. So this image on the right is not going to work in Google search results. You must pick one person that?s going to be the image behind the content on search result pages.
If your image is showing up when you test it on the rich snippets tool and when you type in the title of your blog and you see your blog in the results yet your image is not next to it this is probably the reason. Make sure you have a clear, current headshot attached all your content. This may actually mean you?ll need to get another professional image taken without that plaid sports coat or 1980s hairdo.
But don?t worry, Google AND your future clients will be appreciative.
